Roundtable on Resilience of Indigenous Peoples, Cities and Businesses in the Arctic

The Russian Federation's new Chair of the Social, Economic and Cultural Expert Group (SECEG) hosts a Roundtable on Resilience of Indigenous Peoples, Cities and Businesses in the Arctic. This event took place as part of the an emergency response exercise organized by the Russian Federation in Murmansk from 7-8 September.

An interdepartmental emergency response exercise in the Arctic zone was held from September 7-8 on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, organized by the Russian Emergencies Ministry. As part of the program of events, the Russian Federation's new Chair of the Social, Economic and Cultural Expert Group (SECEG) organized a Roundtable on Resilience of Indigenous Peoples, Cities and Businesses in the Arctic.

Considerable attention was paid to the sustainable development of the Arctic, the resilience of Indigenous Peoples, the adoption of measures to counter the consequences of climate change and thawing of permafrost. The event was moderated by SECEG Chair Jylia Zvorykina and presentations were made by the Arctic Council's Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials, Ambassador-at-large of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nikolai Korchunov, Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region Olga Kuznetsova, Vice-Minister for Arctic Development and Indigenous Peoples Affairs in the Government of Sakha Republic (Yakutia), the Indigenous and Regions Envoy Michail Pogodaev, SDWG Chair Oleg Solyakov, Saami Council Head of Delegation to the Arctic Council Victoria Guseva, RAIPON Head of Delegation to Arctic Council SDWG Gregory Dukarev, Vice-President of PJSC "Nornikel" on federal and regional programs Andrey Grachev, , Executive Director, Northern Forum, President, Association for the Development of the Northern Regions “Northern Forum Academy” Vladimir Vasilev, Managing Director, Centre for High North Logistics, Nord University Business School Kjell Stokvik, Jan Dusik (WWF Arctic Programme), Regional Coordinator for Euroasia, Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet (GASP) Nara Luvsan, Alexandra Middleton (Postdoctoral Researcher, PhD, Oulu Business School, University of Oulu), Chair of AHHEG Maxim Chashin and other Arctic experts. The participants discussed a number of projects of the Arctic Council, including ECONOR, Arctic Demography Index, Arctic Resilience Forum and other.
